A newly released set of documents from the US Department of Justice related to the case of Jeffrey Epstein indicates that an Indian woman was identified among the victims, with American authorities attempting to reach her in early 2020.
An internal email dated January 13, 2020, shows officials discussing efforts to locate the woman in order to facilitate compensation through a victims’ assistance fund. The email, titled “Epstein Victims,” suggests coordination with the US Embassy in India if her address and contact details could be obtained. Several portions of the communication remain redacted, with personal information blacked out.
According to a report by The Pioneer, officials outlined procedures related to compensation, referring to the New York Crime Victims Compensation scheme. The correspondence also mentions forwarding applications and necessary paperwork to the FBI for processing.
The documents further reference the possibility of therapy support under emergency victim assistance programmes for eligible individuals.
The Indian victim is cited in a document numbered “EFTA00038425,” which includes a note stating: “Regarding the individual located in India. If you can get me her address and contact information, I will coordinate with our colleagues at the embassy there. Please call me if you have any additional questions.”
The exchange took place just months after Epstein’s death in August 2019. He died in a New York jail while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges involving underage girls. US authorities officially ruled his death a suicide.
