Online self-enumeration of voters under Karnataka’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has gained momentum after technical issues that initially affected the process were resolved.
According to Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer V. Anbukumar, more than 1.66 lakh voters (0.30%) had submitted their enumeration forms online as of Wednesday, July 8.
The online self-enumeration process began on June 30 and will continue until July 29.
In the initial days, many voters were unable to access the online form because of minor differences between their names in the electoral roll and Aadhaar records, such as extra spaces or punctuation marks between initials.
Election officials said the software has now been updated to ignore such minor mismatches, allowing most voters to complete the process online. However, those whose names differ significantly between their voter ID and Aadhaar will have to submit the form offline.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can the same mobile number be used for multiple voters to submit the SIR online enumeration form?
No. Each voter must use a unique mobile number linked to their Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC). This is because the online submission requires an Aadhaar-based electronic signature (e-sign), which verifies the voter through a one-time password (OTP) sent to the registered mobile number.
Is the process complete after submitting the form online? Should voters inform the Booth Level Officer (BLO)?
No. Online submission alone does not complete the process. The Booth Level Officer (BLO) must still visit and verify the voter’s residence.
Voters are advised to share their online reference number with the BLO. This helps the officer find the submitted form on the ECINet app, prevents duplicate manual entries and removes the voter’s name from the pending verification list.
Can a BLO edit the online enumeration form after it has been submitted?
No. Once the online form is submitted, the information cannot be edited or changed by the BLO. The form is digitally secured using the voter’s Aadhaar-based electronic signature.
