A student from Karnataka pursuing higher studies in the United States has been reported missing, prompting his family to seek immediate intervention from both the Government of India and the Karnataka government.

Saketh Sreenivasaiah, a Master of Science student at the University of California, Berkeley, has been untraceable since the morning of February 12, 2026. According to his family and housemates, repeated attempts to contact him and locate him at known places yielded no results.

A missing person complaint was subsequently filed with the Berkeley Police Department, which registered the case as No. 26-6726. Authorities have initiated an investigation and are actively searching for him, though his whereabouts remain unknown.

Deeply concerned by the development, Saketh’s family has written to Karnataka’s Chief Secretary and Chief Minister, as well as to the Ministry of External Affairs, urging swift diplomatic intervention. In their representation, they requested that the Government of India coordinate through the Consulate General of India, San Francisco to liaise with US authorities and ensure all possible assistance in tracing him.

The family stated that Saketh is enrolled in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Professional Master’s programme at UC Berkeley for Fall 2025 and holds an Indian passport. They described his disappearance as deeply distressing and said the uncertainty has taken a heavy emotional toll.

According to the family, it was Saketh’s housemate who first alerted authorities after being unable to locate him, leading to the prompt filing of the police complaint.

Appealing for urgent support, the family said coordinated efforts through diplomatic and official channels are critical at this stage to help bring clarity to the situation and ensure Saketh’s safe return.
