Mangaluru, Feb 16: The Mangaluru Customs Commissionerate has recorded a sharp surge in revenue over the past five years and is on course to cross the ₹8,000 crore mark in the current financial year, Customs Commissioner P Vinitha Sekhar said on Sunday.
Speaking at the International Customs Day 2026 programme held at the Business Development Centre of New Mangalore Port Authority in Panambur, Sekhar said revenue collections had nearly doubled from ₹4,132 crore in 2020–21, reflecting sustained institutional reforms and operational efficiency.
She attributed the growth to strengthened compliance mechanisms, improved trade facilitation, and the introduction of cutting-edge digital systems. Among the key initiatives implemented by the commissionerate is the Sea Cargo Manifest and Transhipment Regulations (SCMTR), aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency in cargo movement.
“Mangaluru Customs is among the first in the country to roll out transformative digital platforms that have set benchmarks in efficiency and accountability,” Sekhar said, adding that customs authorities today face emerging challenges such as the rapid expansion of e-commerce, smuggling networks, and global supply-chain vulnerabilities.
International Customs Day is observed annually to mark the founding of the World Customs Organization in 1953, which now represents 187 customs administrations handling nearly 98% of global trade.
