Mangaluru: A dedicated police outpost was inaugurated on Wednesday at Mangaluru International Airport, aimed at reinforcing landside security and improving operational coordination at the airport premises.

Strategically located adjacent to the airport’s exit toll gate, the new facility ensures a continuous police presence at a key access point, enabling swift response to any security or law-and-order situation. The two-floor outpost, spread across 1,650 square feet, has been designed to support real-time monitoring, rapid intervention, and effective coordination among agencies.

The ground floor is equipped with a holding cell, two workstation rooms, and an office, allowing on-site enquiry handling, documentation, and immediate operational response. The first floor features a lounge and a dedicated control room to enhance surveillance of vehicular movement and public areas outside the terminal building.

With passenger traffic steadily increasing and airport operations becoming more complex, the new outpost is expected to significantly boost vigilance. It complements the existing police check post near the entry toll gate, creating integrated security coverage at both entry and exit points and strengthening deterrence against unlawful activities.

Officials noted that the presence of an on-site holding facility and operational workstations will reduce dependence on off-airport infrastructure, enabling quicker decision-making and faster emergency response. The landside control room will further support close monitoring and seamless information sharing among security and operational agencies.
