Udupi: A 10-year-old boy from Hebri in Udupi district has achieved an extraordinary feat by memorising the entire Bhagavad Gita and handwriting it 18 times in four different languages.
Adhwaith R, a Class 5 student of Purnapramati School in Girinagar, Bengaluru, originally hails from Chara village in Udupi district. Passionate about Sanskrit and Indian scriptures from an early age, he began learning the Bhagavad Gita when he was just six years old. Over time, his curiosity grew into a deep interest in spiritual literature.
Adhwaith is the son of Raghavendra and Sangeetha, who run a tea shop near Padmanabhanagar in Bengaluru. His father says the boy grasped the Bhagavad Gita much faster than most children and had already memorised it completely by the time he reached Class 4.
Over a period of nearly two and a half years, Adhwaith committed the entire text to memory while also writing about 25 shlokas each day. His dedication resulted in multiple handwritten versions of the scripture.
Between October 2024 and September 2025, he produced 14 handwritten copies of the Bhagavad Gita in Kannada, Sanskrit, English, and Hindi. With these additions, the total number of handwritten versions he has completed has reached 18, according to his father.
In 2024, Adhwaith also appeared for a Bhagavad Gita examination conducted before Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt during the seer’s Chaturmasa programme in Chennai.
His journey was significantly supported by his teacher, Rakesh Mirji, whose guidance helped nurture the young student’s passion and discipline in studying the scripture.
