Bengaluru: Amid concerns from many voters who were unable to find their own names or those of their parents in the 2002 Special Intensive Revision (SIR) electoral roll, the Karnataka Election Commission has clarified that there are alternative ways to complete the enumeration process.
The draft electoral roll will be published on August 5.
S. Yogeshwar, Joint Chief Electoral Officer, said that voters whose names are missing from the 2002 SIR list should not panic.
“If you or your immediate family members are not found in the 2002 SIR list, you can either use the progeny and relative mapping option or register as a new voter during the Claims and Objections period by submitting Form 6,” he said.
According to the Election Commission, if a voter’s name appears in the 2025 electoral roll but not in the 2002 SIR list, they can link their application to a relative whose name is present in the 2002 list. The 2002 SIR records can be searched through the Election Commission’s online portal.
The EC also clarified that if a voter’s parents are not listed in the 2002 roll, they may instead link themselves to another verified paternal or maternal relative, such as an uncle or aunt. The relative can be registered as a voter anywhere in India, as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) can verify the details through the Election Commission’s centralised database.
Importantly, voters are not required to submit any document proving their relationship while filing the enumeration form.
However, if a voter later receives a notice seeking additional verification after the draft electoral roll is published, they will have to submit any one of the 12 documents approved by the Election Commission.
Those who have no relatives listed in the 2002 SIR roll will be treated as new voters.
The Election Commission said the Claims and Objections period will be open from August 5 to September 4. During this period, eligible citizens can apply for inclusion in the electoral roll by submitting Form 6, a mandatory declaration form, and one of the 12 approved supporting documents.
