Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has introduced a ‘Green Marriage’ initiative to encourage eco-friendly wedding practices and reduce waste generated during celebrations.

As part of the initiative, MCC Commissioner Ravichandra Naik recently honoured a newlywed couple, Veerendar and Suraksha, with a certificate of appreciation for conducting a zero-waste wedding at Rajatadri auditorium in Vamanjoor on March 30.

According to the MCC’s official communication, the ceremony followed a plastic-free and eco-friendly model. No plastic bottles were used; instead, drinking water and welcome beverages were served in reusable steel tumblers. Tissue paper was avoided entirely, and ice cream was served in cups made from arecanut sheets. Decorations featured flowers and reusable eco-friendly materials.

The civic body stated that the initiative aims to promote sustainable practices in social events and inspire citizens to adopt environmentally responsible alternatives during weddings and other large gatherings.
