As Americans voted in the most consequential midterm elections, Democrats have seized control of both houses of Congress, in a rout of President Donald Trump’s Republicans in the midterm elections.

As per reports coming in, Democrats are projected to win US Senate races in South Carolina, Kansas and Texas — all of which are currently held by Republicans and have been for many decades.

The results indicate a clear sign of mood for change, with Democrats notching early victories.

Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff won reelection in Georgia on Tuesday, according to media projections, defeating Trump-backed Republican US Representative Mike Collins and preserving a crucial seat in his party’s battle for Senate control.

Ossoff triumphed in one of the nation’s most competitive Senate races in a state Trump carried by 2 percentage points in 2024, underscoring Democrats’ ability to defend a key battleground.

Meanwhile, Indian American Pia Dandiya won the election to the US House of Representatives from Florida’s 22nd congressional district, defeating Casey Askar, a Marine veteran.

Dandiya, a former high school principal, bagged 51.9 per cent of the votes to become the newest Indian-American US congresswoman, as per the results declared on Tuesday.

Her opponent Askar polled 49.1 per cent of the votes.

Democrat Suhas Subramanyam won reelection to US House in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District. Suhas Subramanyam, who served as an advisor to former President Barack Obama, has been re-elected as a member of the US House of Representatives.
