Mangaluru, June 29: A Kerala-based businessman was allegedly robbed of his car, gold jewellery and other valuables after a group of assailants intercepted his vehicle at Baikampady in Mangaluru during the early hours of Monday.

The victim has been identified as Vikas, a resident of Payyanur in Kerala. He was returning home with his wife and son after attending a friend’s wedding in Mumbai when the incident occurred.

According to reports, at around 2.30 a.m., as Vikas’s car reached the vicinity of Dwara Hotel on National Highway 66 in Baikampady, a gang of seven to eight men travelling in three vehicles blocked his path. The assailants allegedly forced Vikas out of the car and drove away with his wife and son still inside.

The gang is said to have taken the family to the Panambur Beach Road area, where they allegedly robbed them of gold jewellery and other valuables. The woman and child were later abandoned on the roadside, while the accused fled with the car.

Vikas subsequently lodged a complaint at the Panambur Police Station.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the suspects and recover the stolen property. Further legal proceedings are underway.
