His clinical interests include urinary stone diseases, endourology, laparoscopic surgery, andrology, male infertility and renal transplantation. His research focuses on bladder cancer, AI applications and medical innovations.

Among his notable innovations is the Zedd scissors, designed to facilitate the removal of non-muscle-invasive bladder tumours. He also developed the Rector scissors-needle system for intracavitary hydro-dissection and tissue excision, which received a grant of Rs 50 lakh under the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council’s (BIRAC) BIG-16 programme in 2020.

Another development, UROSTENTZ, is a mobile application designed to help patients and doctors monitor ureteric stents and related symptoms. His other innovations include Rapidurine, a liquid specimen testing container, an automated surgical light positioning system and an AI-based non-contact COVID-19 screening system.

His academic contributions include 89 indexed research publications and five book chapters. His research has explored AI and machine learning applications in detecting kidney stones through CT scans, prostate cancer management and minimally invasive urological procedures.

Dr Hameed has received several honours, including the Urology Society of India’s S S Bapat Innovation Award in 2020 and 2021, the USI Got Talent Award in 2020 and the Outstanding Achievement Award in Uro-technology in 2024.
