Mangaluru could soon see renewed efforts to build an international-standard cricket stadium, with Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president Venkatesh Prasad expressing interest in developing a major cricketing facility in the coastal city.

Prasad and other KSCA office-bearers held discussions with Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) chairman Santhosh Kumar Shetty on the proposed project.

Prasad said he would visit Mangaluru at the earliest to inspect potential locations and identify a suitable site for the stadium. He also said he would consult Karnataka Assembly Speaker and Mangaluru MLA U.T. Khader in the city before discussing the next steps for the project.

Highlighting Mangaluru’s connectivity and infrastructure, Prasad said the city was well connected by road, rail, air and sea and could be a suitable location for an international-level cricket stadium. He said the KSCA was keen to make use of the city’s potential and would make every effort to take the proposal forward at the earliest.

MUDA chairman Santhosh Kumar Shetty said two locations had already been identified for the proposed stadium and invited the KSCA president to visit Mangaluru and inspect the sites.

The discussions are expected to pave the way for a more detailed assessment of the proposed locations and the feasibility of developing a major cricket stadium in Mangaluru.

The meeting was attended by KSCA treasurer B.N. Madhukar and executive committee members Parineeth and Anup Sridhar, among others.
