Mangaluru, Oct 27, 2016: In a significant milestone for the Beary community, philanthropists, entrepreneurs and social workers have come together to form the Bearys Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI).
Beary-speaking Muslims, numbering over 15 lakh, are spread across the globe, with coastal Karnataka and neighbouring districts regarded as their traditional homeland.
The primary objective of the BCCI is the overall development of the Beary community and, in turn, to contribute to the nation’s growth, said Haji S M Rasheed, who was unanimously elected as the founder president at the body’s first formal meeting. The meeting was attended by a large number of dignitaries.
The BCCI aims to bring together business leaders and experts from diverse fields such as education, economy, law and technology on a common platform, and to utilise their collective knowledge and expertise for the benefit of the community in particular and society at large.
Among the key objectives of the newly formed body are uniting entrepreneurs of the community, including Non-Resident Indians, articulating collective demands to the government through consultation, and promoting constructive engagement and development initiatives in India.
The BCCI has already been registered, and its formal inaugural ceremony is expected to be held shortly in the presence of dignitaries from Karnataka.
