Mangaluru, Apr 21: Karnataka Director General of Police Dr M A Saleem has expressed satisfaction over the overall law and order situation in Dakshina Kannada district, noting that the region has witnessed a relatively calm and stable period over the past year. He emphasized that maintaining this environment will remain a top priority for the police force.

During his visit to Mangaluru, the DGP held a comprehensive review meeting at the office of the city police commissioner, where he assessed policing performance, crime trends, and preventive measures implemented across the district. Senior officers briefed him on ongoing initiatives aimed at ensuring communal harmony and public safety.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, Dr Saleem said the district has not recorded any major disturbances in recent months, which reflects effective coordination among police units and proactive engagement with local communities. He underlined the importance of continuing community policing efforts and building trust between citizens and law enforcement agencies.

The DGP also highlighted administrative concerns raised during the meeting, particularly requests from police personnel posted in coastal Karnataka who originally belong to North Karnataka. Many of them have sought transfers closer to their hometowns due to family-related reasons. He said the department is examining these requests carefully and will implement transfers in a phased manner, keeping both humanitarian and operational requirements in mind.

In addition, Dr Saleem directed officials to remain vigilant, strengthen intelligence gathering, and ensure quick response mechanisms are in place to handle any emerging challenges, especially in a district known for its sensitivity.
