Facing a sharp drop in water availability due to the halt in inflow from the Netravati River and declining levels at the Thumbe Vented Dam, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has announced water rationing across the city starting May 4.

The move comes amid intense summer conditions and is aimed at ensuring a consistent supply of drinking water until the monsoon arrives. Under the new system, water will be supplied to Mangaluru City North and South zones on alternate days—effectively once every two days.

The MCC Commissioner said the rotation system will remain in place until further notice.
