A major landslide was reported at Kalladi near Meppady in Wayanad on Tuesday, with media reports saying that people may be trapped under the debris.

The reported landslide occurred after rubble from the Wayanad-Kalladi tunnel construction site slide down due to heavy rains in the area.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Kalpetta rushed to the spot, and search operations underway to rescue the people trapped.

According to ANI, six people, who were injured have been admitted to a local hospital.

Officials said local residents rescued three persons from the site, where workers associated with the tunnel project were staying.

Chief Minister V D Satheeshan spoke to the Wayanad District Collector over the phone to review the situation.

The NDRF unit stationed at Meenangadi will reach the accident site immediately. The NDRF team based in Kozhikode has also been directed to proceed to Wayanad.
