Moodbidri, June 23: A family had a narrow escape after their moving car suddenly caught fire in Moodbidri town on Monday, reducing the vehicle to a charred shell within minutes.

The incident occurred near the old municipal building when smoke was reportedly seen emanating from one of the car’s fog lights. The vehicle was being driven by Masood of Kotekar, who was travelling to Moodbidri with his family.

Realising that something was wrong, the occupants quickly stopped the vehicle and rushed out, ensuring that the women and children inside were safely evacuated. Moments later, flames spread rapidly through the car, engulfing it completely.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the scene and, with the assistance of local residents, managed to bring the blaze under control. However, the vehicle suffered extensive damage in the fire.

The car had reportedly been purchased by Masood from Avinash of Moodumarnad.

Moodbidri police visited the spot and conducted an inspection. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
