Mangaluru, July 1: In view of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for Dakshina Kannada district, the district administration has announced a holiday for all educational institutions up to the pre-university level on Wednesday, July 2.
The order, issued by Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V., applies to all anganwadi centres, government and private primary and high schools, as well as PU colleges across the district. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure amid forecasts of continued heavy to very heavy rainfall in the region.
According to weather advisories issued by the IMD and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), intense rain activity is expected to persist over the coming days, raising concerns over flooding, landslides and other rain-related incidents.
The district administration has issued several safety instructions to the public. Parents have been urged to ensure that children stay away from rivers, streams, lakes, low-lying areas and the seashore. Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea until weather conditions improve.
All district- and taluk-level officials have been directed to remain stationed at their headquarters and stay prepared for emergency response duties. Authorities have been instructed to monitor the situation closely, address public grievances without delay and maintain regular coordination with the District Control Room.
Tourists and residents have also been cautioned against visiting beaches, riverbanks and other vulnerable locations during the period of heavy rainfall. Relief centres are being kept ready in all taluks to provide assistance in case of emergencies.
The district administration has appealed to the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with safety advisories. In case of emergencies related to rain or natural disasters, citizens may contact the District Control Room at 0824-2220588 or communicate through the official email dc.mnglr@gmail.com.
