Bantwal, Jul 6: A 17-year-old college student was stabbed while waiting for a bus at a bus stop near Manchi in Bantwal taluk on Monday morning. The accused later surrendered before the police.

The incident occurred around 8.45 am at the Montimaru Paddu bus stop, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Bantwal Rural Police Station.

According to police, the girl was waiting to board a bus to her college when the accused, identified as Javvar (28), a resident of Manchi, allegedly assaulted her with a knife, inflicting injuries to her head and hand. Police suspect the attack was carried out with the intention of killing her.

Sources said the accused runs a grocery shop near the bus stop where the incident took place.

Following the attack, Javvar reportedly walked into the Bantwal Rural Police Station and surrendered.

The injured student was rushed to a private hospital in Deralakatte, where she is undergoing treatment. Police said her condition is stable and she is out of danger.

Senior police officers visited the scene soon after the incident, carried out a spot inspection and began an investigation.

Police have taken the accused into custody and are questioning him to ascertain the motive behind the attack. A case has been registered, and further legal action is underway.
