New Delhi: Delhi Police has stepped up security across central Delhi, with around 32,000 personnel expected to be deployed ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march at Connaught Place on Friday.

The party has called for the national flag to be unfurled at Central Park at 5 pm on October 16 to protest the arrest of its leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das for waving the tricolour at Jantar Mantar.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has announced that Central Park will remain closed to the public on Friday and Saturday, citing administrative reasons. Delhi Police has also appealed to people not to respond to calls for the gathering.

The planned march has prompted a series of security and administrative measures in the capital, including restrictions on protests, detentions of youth and student leaders, and the closure of metro stations, according to the report.

Meanwhile, Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory warning that traffic movement in and around Connaught Place could be affected from 3 pm onwards on Friday.

Commuters have been advised to avoid several roads and junctions, including Sansad Marg, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Marg, Panchkuian Road, Barakhamba Road, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Janpath, Rafi Marg, Tilak Marg, Tolstoy Marg and Sikandra Road.

Other affected stretches may include Basant Lane, Chelmsford Road, Minto Road, the Rail Bhawan area, the C-Hexagon, Mandi House, Patel Chowk, Windsor Place, Gole Dak Khana and Ashok Road, from the General Post Office to the C-Hexagon.

The traffic police said diversions would be implemented dynamically depending on the situation. Commuters have been advised to allow additional travel time and use public transport wherever possible.

CJP founder Abhijit Dipke has alleged that police personnel were following him and that he was under constant surveillance by the police and Intelligence Bureau officials.
