Mangaluru: A 23-year-old contract worker, who went missing after a major explosion and fire at the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) premises on Wednesday afternoon, was found dead, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Manish Karkada (23), a native of Mulki. He was working on a contract basis at the site where the incident occurred and had gone missing following the explosion.

Police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said Manish’s body was found in a severely charred condition.

The commissioner said one person was killed in the incident, while another suffered burn injuries. Eight others sustained minor injuries and are out of danger.
