Mangaluru, July 1: Three members of a family, including two young girls, lost their lives after a retaining wall collapsed onto a house at Naguri under the jurisdiction of the Kankanady Police Station limits in Manglauru on Tuesday. The incident occurred amid heavy rainfall that has been lashing the city.

According to officials, the retaining wall gave way and crashed onto a tiled-roof house, causing the structure to collapse. Six people were inside the house at the time of the incident.

Upon receiving information about the tragedy, personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation, which was later completed successfully.

Rescuers pulled out three survivors from beneath the debris and shifted them to a hospital for treatment. The injured have been identified as Alka (14), Anusha (11), and Balakrishna (48).

However, three others trapped under the rubble were found dead. The deceased have been identified as Shanta (46), Anamika Chaurasia (8), and Pari (4).

The affected family, originally from the Indian state of Bihar, had reportedly been residing in the area behind the Kankanady Police Station for nearly two decades.

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Darshan visited the site, assessed the situation, and reviewed the rescue and relief operations.
