Mangaluru: More than 50 passengers had a narrow escape after an express bus travelling from Karkala to Mangaluru veered off the road and overturned near MCF on National Highway 66 at Panambur on Friday morning.

The bus reportedly lost control before plunging into a roadside drain and overturning. Most of the passengers escaped without injuries, while one passenger, identified as Aditya from Belman, suffered minor injuries.

The accident occurred during the morning hours, leaving several passengers trapped inside the overturned vehicle.

On receiving information about the mishap, personnel from the Mangaluru North traffic police reached the spot. With the help of local residents and other members of the public, the police assisted in evacuating the passengers from the bus.

The injured passenger was reportedly given medical attention.

Police officials said no formal case had been registered in connection with the accident as of Friday afternoon.
