Mangaluru: The Paschima Karavali Railway Yatri Abhivrudhi Samiti has urged Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta to push for more train services connecting Mangaluru with Bengaluru and Mumbai, including extending existing services to Mangaluru Central railway station.

In a letter dated October 11, the organisation said Mangaluru Central continued to lack adequate train connectivity to major destinations such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Gujarat and northern Karnataka.

It pointed out that the station had traditionally handled more trains connecting the region with Kerala and Tamil Nadu, while demands for better connectivity to other parts of the country remained unaddressed.

The samiti cited two services — the Mumbai CSMT–Mangaluru Junction Superfast Express (12133/12134) and the Yeshwantpur–Mangaluru Junction Gomateshwara Express (16575/16576) — which terminate at Mangaluru Junction rather than Mangaluru Central.

According to the organisation, the commissioning of platforms 4 and 5 at Mangaluru Central has eased constraints related to handling additional trains. However, the two services have yet to be extended to the central station.

The samiti has called on the MP to intervene with the railway authorities to prioritise the introduction of new services and the extension of existing trains to Mangaluru Central, aiming to improve connectivity for passengers in coastal Karnataka.
