Mangaluru, Sept 7: The Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate will have a new officer overseeing law and order, with 2022-batch IPS officer Sam Varghese appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order).

Varghese, who was serving with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Bengaluru as Superintendent of Police, has been moved to Mangaluru as part of a state government transfer order. He will assume the DCP post with immediate effect.

The appointment comes after Mithun H N was transferred from Mangaluru and posted as Superintendent of Police of Gadag district, leaving the city’s law-and-order DCP position vacant.

A native of Kottayam in Kerala, Varghese belongs to the 2022 batch of the Indian Police Service and is part of the Karnataka cadre.

He entered the police service as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of the Channagiri subdivision in Davanagere district. He subsequently moved to the CID in Bengaluru, where he served as Superintendent of Police before being assigned to Mangaluru.

Varghese’s new role places him in charge of the city’s law-and-order policing, including coordination of police operations and maintenance of public order across Mangaluru.
