Manipal, June 15: A potential tragedy was narrowly averted in Manipal on Monday morning after a school bus driver suffered a sudden heart attack while transporting students and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into a road divider.

The bus, belonging to Madhava Kripa School, was carrying students when its driver, Suresh Sannakkibettu (54), reportedly experienced severe chest pain while at the wheel.

Despite falling critically ill during the journey, Suresh reportedly realised the gravity of the situation and attempted to steer the bus towards the side of the road. However, the vehicle went out of control and rammed into the central divider.

Fortunately, none of the students on board sustained any injuries in the incident.

A major mishap that could have resulted in serious consequences was prevented due to the driver’s presence of mind and efforts to control the vehicle even as his condition deteriorated.

Local residents and school staff rushed to the spot immediately and shifted the driver to a hospital for treatment.
