Mangaluru: Padma Shri awardee and renowned educationist Harekala Hajabba, who has earned national and international recognition for his contribution to education, has been served a notice by the Election Commission in connection with the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Hajabba’s name was recorded as “Hajabba” in the 2002 electoral roll. However, his name is currently recorded as “Harekala Hajabba” across his official documents, including his ration card, Aadhaar card, passport and voter ID.

The notice is understood to have been issued after the discrepancy in the name surfaced during the SIR verification process.

An anganwadi worker delivered the notice to Hajabba on Monday morning and asked him to appear before the gram panchayat on September 11 with all relevant documents.

“I will go to the gram panchayat on Friday and submit all the required documents. I am confident that the issue will be resolved after that,” Hajabba said.
